How to Start Your Journal

  1. GATHER YOUR MATERIALS

  • Something to write in, like a notebook

  • Something to write with, like a pen, pencil, or sparkly gel pen

  • Things to decorate with, like glue, tape, markers, sketch pencils, stickers

  • Your imagination!

2. MAKE YOUR JOURNAL SPECIAL

Decorate the cover any way you want. I recommend stickers and permanent markers.

Make a title page on the first page like “Keep Out” or “Read at Your Own Risk” or “Welcome”

Next page is your “All About Me” or “About the Author” page. Write about yourself. List your likes and dislikes, things you do for fun, and so on.

3. PICK A PROMPT (CLICK ON A PICTURE) AND HAVE FUN!

Have fun writing and creating. Use the writing prompts below to help you get ideas for your next journal page. Remember there are no rules. You don’t have to stay on the lines or worry about spelling. Just have fun being you! Then check back for new writing ideas soon.
